WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
It should come as no surprise, given how many of the city’s rich and famous summer in the Hamptons, that you’re going to find a lot of haute cuisine out east. But finding a chef with a CV as deep as that of Doug Gulija is a tall order. Chef Doug (as he’s known), of Southampton’s The Plaza Café, has spent decades mastering the craft of fine dining, and his dishes, both in their flavor and presentation, evidence it.
Though the very ordinary name might have you thinking you’re walking into any other local eatery out east, The Plaza Café serves up some of the most innovative and beautiful cuisine in the east end, and perhaps the world. Not that one could go wrong at The Plaza, but we’d steer you towards the prosciutto wrapped shrimp and the foie gras tourchon (yes, both) to start, and the lobster & shrimp “shepherd’s pie” as a main. Save room for dessert, and keep your phone handy. Chef Doug’s presentation skills are about to blow up your gram bigtime.
Pro tip: if you’re planning an event out east, you can get Chef Doug’s food truck to cater with a custom menu.
