If you’re in the city and you like cookies, or go to places where cookies are sold and have a pair of functioning eyes, you’ve probably noticed the nearly ubiquitous presence of green Tate’s Bake Shop bags of delicious cookies all over the city. But have you ever wondered where they come from? Is there a real Tate’s Bake Shop? Or it a fictionalized fantasy and the cookies really come from a factory in New Jersey?

DRL, Mythbusters edition, is here to bring you the truth. There IS a real Tate’s, and it really is in Southampton, on the east end. The little cottage building–green, of course–offers more than just the crispy cookies for which Tate’s has become known. While we know you’re going to grab all the cookies, we’d recommend having a look at the chocolate cake. YOLO it today and, well, SoulCycle it off tomorrow.

Pro tip: if you’ve got a birthday or something going on out east, Tate’s makes special order cakes in all sizes.
