Wolffer Kitchen

WOLFFER KITCHEN

If you’ve been out to the east end enough, you know that the name Wolffer is synonymous out here with luxury experiences. But what you might not know is that it doesn’t just stop at the wine. Enter, Wolffer Kitchen, the latest offering of the Wolffer food and beverage empire.

Topping Rose House

TOPPING ROSE HOUSE

If you’re looking for a luxurious place to stay out east, stop looking for a Four Seasons (there isn’t one). There is that level of luxury, though. Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, for one, is capable of delivering it. The “house” actually features accommodations in the form of guestrooms within the main house and a series of four cottages located just steps away. The vibe of the decor is homey chic, with classic touches like wainscoting on the walls and beds that look more like they came out of a high end home catalogue than your standard issue hotel. The area rugs found throughout really tie the spaces in, and you might find yourself wishing that your own house looked more like Topping Rose House.

Surf Lodge

SURF LODGE

Just because there’s a lot of hype doesn’t mean you shouldn’t believe it. If Surf Lodge had a motto, that would be it. Probably the most talked about place in Montauk, and maybe on the east end, Surf Lodge was almost like the Lewis & Clark of the post-millennium Montauk revival. (They pioneered it.)

The Plaza Cafe

THE PLAZA CAFE

It should come as no surprise, given how many of the city’s rich and famous summer in the Hamptons, that you’re going to find a lot of haute cuisine out east. But finding a chef with a CV as deep as that of Doug Gulija is a tall order. Chef Doug (as he’s known), of Southampton’s The Plaza Café, has spent decades mastering the craft of fine dining, and his dishes, both in their flavor and presentation, evidence it.

The Patio

THE PATIO

Anyone who knows Italian food knows that there’s one dish to measure the quality of a restaurant’s pasta: cacio e pepe. When we tried the “cach e pep” (as we pronounce it) at The Patio in Westhampton Beach, we were stunned. We thought we were back in Little Italy, or up in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue. But no, we were in Westhampton, and we didn’t have to worry about where we parked the car.

The Montauk Beach House

THE MONTAUK BEACH HOUSE

Contemporary Montauk chic is how we’d describe the vibe at the Montauk Beach house, or “the MBH,” for short. Offering guests 5 different room types makes for a unique, fun approach to design and the appreciation of it. A stay at the MBH might send you running to refurnish your own place the week after. With refinished hardwoods, a bold take on wall color and furnishings, and warm lighting, you’ll wish you lived here. And the scene itself might make you.

The Maidstone

THE MAIDSTONE

If you gave a team of genius branding pros the assignment of taking the phrase “Hamptons chic” and turning it into a business concept, we’re pretty sure the result would look a lot like The Maidstone. The boutique hotel, featuring a restaurant and bar, is a gorgeous instant-classic set right in the heart of town.

TATE’S BAKE SHOP

If you’re in the city and you like cookies, or go to places where cookies are sold and have a pair of functioning eyes, you’ve probably noticed the nearly ubiquitous presence of green Tate’s Bake Shop bags of delicious cookies all over the city. But have you ever wondered where they come from? Is there a real Tate’s Bake Shop? Or it a fictionalized fantasy and the cookies really come from a factory in New Jersey?

Stone Creek Inn

STONE CREEK INN

Luxurious and storied are two words we’d use to describe this gorgeous inn-style house located in East Quogue, out of which chef Christian Mir serves some of the best French-influenced American cuisine you’ll find anywhere out east. And he should know: Christian worked for years under storied French chef Alain Ducasse in Paris.

Starr Boggs

STARR BOGGS

Words like “chic” and “delicious” fail to capture the decades of excellence that have been going on at Starr Boggs in Westhampton. A mainstay of the east end since the 80s, the restaurant is still serving up beautifully plated nouveau American cuisine in a stunning environment. The chef-owner is getting up there in years, though, and has recently hinted that he might be closing up shop. If you can, definitely make it a point to stop in and enjoy this iconic piece of Hamptons culinary history.

For more than a quarter-century, Sen has been serving up some of the best sushi on the east end. They’re not just sushi, though, and they’ll be the first ones to tell you. Do yourself a favor and sample some of their buns. We’re carnivores by nature but even their veggie bun had us salivating.
