Absolutely can’t get enough of collaborations? Love putting works of art on your Instagram story? With Stella McCartney’s new collaboration with Yoshitomo Nara, you can wear your love of art on your sleeve, your back, or your chest… or carry it, the opportunities are endless.
For Spring/Summer 2021, McCartney has partnered with world-renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. If you don’t know his work, now is the time to get familiar with it. While art aficionados have been a fan of his for years, this collaboration is sure to bring his work to the masses.
Nara, who rose to fame in Japan in the early 90s, is best known for his drawings of childlike figures, which seem innocent at first glance, but contain punk and sinister undertones when viewed in detail. In the past two years, fueled by demand from younger collectors, Nara’s work has skyrocketed, with his Knife Behind Back selling for $24.9 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong. He is readying a solo show at LACMA, pending a lifting of COVID restrictions.
The collection is entirely unisex and features some of Nara’s most recognizable work and slogans on luxe knits, silk sets, and bags. As if it couldn’t get any better, the collection is eco-friendly and sustainable, as the rest of McCartney’s collections are. High fashion pieces with a sustainable edge? Count us in.
The collection is available now on Stella McCartney’s website, although most pieces are sold out. Our advice? Start scouring your favorite luxury boutiques for pieces, or run, don’t walk, to your local Stella McCartney store soon and get on the Stella McCartney x Nara collab waitlist, as this collection is sure to be a quick sellout and an instant classic.
