Capsule collections are anything but easy. They’re the product of long creative and business processes. The stars have to align for them to go right, and with Loewe x Totoro, they did.

Some background:

Loewe is a Spanish luxury house founded in 1846. Currently within the LVMH organization, the brand is known for gorgeous leather goods and a creative style / architecture all its own.

My Neighbor Totoro is a 1988 Japanese animated film directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. It features an iconic set of animated characters–typical of the Ghibli style–and is critically acclaimed as one of the best animated films of all time.

But, a capsule collection…would it work?

Loewe is known for bright colors, interesting shapes, and multi-form architecture, especially in their bags. But the addition of the rotund little critters from Totoro push the pieces of this capsule collection from “cute” to “must-have.”

2021 is setting up to be part deux of 2020, with rioters storming the Capitol and COVID continuing to spread.
