Southampton: the happy medium between accessibly convenient and inaccessibly luxurious. The balance between elevated and easy is the magic behind this Hampton. Editorial Note: we’ve bundled our coverage of Water Mill into here too.

Southampton exists with a foot in each world: the Hamptons that’re easy to get to, and the Hamptons that demand luxury at all costs. Getting here isn’t that big of a hassle; just stay on Sunrise Highway until it becomes Montauk Highway and you’re more or less there. Be forewarned, though, that’s when the traffic can sometimes start.

Fancy dinner parties are the thing we associate most closely with Southampton. From private celebrations to the summertime charity galas, Southampton is, more often than not, where these posh events take place.

A dinner party is hardly your chance to swill rosé like the best of ’em, though, and a bustling nightlife scene has millennial-friendly options like 75 Main and Southampton Social. While not necessarily our move, these party venues might well be yours.

You’re in a great spot to enjoy the Hamptons’ fine dining scene if you’re in or around Southampton. Bistro Été and The Plaza Café are two of our go-to spots for a meal to be remembered.

For something a bit more low key, we’d steer you towards Argento, and for some great no-frills Mexican, La Hacienda is the jam.

And no trip to Southampton can really be called complete without a stop at Tate’s Bake Shop, a/k/a the place where the cookies come from.
