If you’re not psyched to be spending a weekend in Montauk, well, that makes one of you. The energy, the amped up vibes, that’s what makes Montauk so very…Montauk. And yet, there’s something inarguably chill about it too. Montauk is just a paradox like that.

In the Hamptons, there’s literally no further you can go from NYC than Montauk. Its popularity has also skyrocketed in recent years, so that journey away from the city won’t be yours to make alone. Much the opposite, prepare for traffic like you’ve only had nightmares about. The LIRR isn’t a ton better; it’s packed. And yet, the journey to “the end” is just so. damn. worth it. Best bet? Drive out, and either leave early, or leave late.

Billed as a surfer’s paradise, Montauk does not disappoint. Surfers come from far and wide to catch waves at Ditch Plains, and the town offers exactly the sort of stoked yet laid back vibes only surfers have ever truly mastered. Of course, there’s the out-of-control partying at The Surf Lodge, but don’t miss out on the coffee at Left Hand, the shakes at The Frozen Anchor, and the cocktails at Sel Rrose (yes, of NYC fame).

“Surf cuisine” is a thing. Believe us, or believe the folks at 668 The Gig Shack, who serve up some of the flat out tastiest food we’ve ever had, lifetime. Maybe it’s the hunger after a day catching waves, or maybe it’s just that the restauranteurs of Montauk care deeply about their craft; regardless, when dining out in Montauk, you’re going to have an amazing experience. For something a little more upscale, we’d suggest Navy Beach, or if you’re looking for a beach-picnic grab, hit up The Ditch Witch.
