A WEEKEND IN HAMPTON BAYS
You might think the Hamptons is all just glitz and glam, high price tags and higher expectations. And for the most part, you could be right. But in Hampton Bays, you couldn’t be more wrong. The ‘Bays is a small slice of Anytown, USA, right here in the heart of the east end.
Note: in our coverage of Hampton Bays, we’re including the nearby areas of Quogue and East Quogue.
While not as close to the city as Westhampton, Hampton Bays is still an easy-access option for those of you coming in by road or rail. It’s just Sunrise Highway to Exit 65S and you’re there, no fuss, no muss.
“No fuss, no muss” might just be the town motto of Hampton Bays, with its wide availability of everyday fare, and an authentic Long Island gourmet pizza shop to boot. (Here’s lookin’ at you, Francesca’s.)
If Hampton Bays can be defined by one thing, for us, it’s boat culture. With more marinas than you can shake a stick at, Hampton Bays is the place to be if navigating local waterways is your pastime of choice. It’s also the home of great delis, normal supermarkets with normal prices, and even a Macy’s (for those “oh crap I forgot my ______” purchases).
Despite being decidedly the “least chic Hampton,” don’t you dare sleep on the dining options in and around Hampton Bays. The Stone Creek Inn, located in neighboring East Quogue, is helmed by critically acclaimed chef Christian Mir. Bringing his French-trained haute cuisine skills to bear on the east end’s finest ingredients, Christian runs arguably one of the best restaurants in the entire country out of this often-overlooked corner of the Hamptons.
For something completely on the other side of the spectrum, can we interest you in the east end’s best doughnut? Family-owned Krieg’s Bakery has just that ready for you.
