East. Hampton. The most “Hampton” Hampton of the Hamptons. One might even call it the quintessential Hampton. With its gorgeous main street–complete with picturesque storefronts, street lights, and a pond which may or may not contain a turtle–this Hampton’s got it all.

Editorial Note: Within our coverage of East Hampton, we’ve chosen to include Wainscott, Northwest Harbor, Springs, and Amagansett.

Woof. Now you’ve done it. Trying to get to East Hampton during the usual rush? Bring a snack; you’re going to need it. If you’re driving to East Hampton during peak season (MDW to LDW), do not–we repeat–do NOT be on the road from 4 to 7pm. It’ll be a mess; we guarantee it.

East Hampton

East Hampton has its own airport, and for those of you that’ve got it like that, ignore the above note re: road traffic. Roads? What a quaint little notion. You’ll be flying in to East Hampton on your Gulfstream.

And you won’t even need to pack, either, because if there’s one thing East Hampton does right, it’s shopping. With boutiques from brands like Brunello Cucinelli, Zimmerman and Ralph Lauren dotting its streets, East Hampton has something for everyone…well, everyone chic.

With the sorts of palates to please that East Hampton has, it’s no surprise that the restaurants are top notch. And not just for the Hamptons, we mean top notch in the country. Just because the “tire guide” doesn’t really make it out east, doesn’t mean the area’s chefs and their cuisine don’t deserve recognition.

If you’re looking for something elevated yet eclectic, Highway is your huckleberry. Feeling like something exotic but a bit more low key? Hampton Chutney Co. is where it’s at. And if you want to get embroiled in a real local controversy, take a view on whether Babette’s or Mary’s Marvelous does a better breakfast. (Hint: both are beyond excellent.)
